The early versions of the Chevrolet Small Block (SBC) and Big Block (BBC) engines featured a unique oil filter sealing surface that creates a challenge when trying to find an appropriate oil filter take-off or sandwich plate. This unit allows the user to plumb in a remote oil cooler system on Gen 1-2 Small Block Chevrolet and Mk. 1-6 Big Block Chevrolet engines.

This sandwich plate also has a built-in 180°F (82°C) thermostat which bypasses the oil cooler until the oil has reached its minimum operating temperature. This results in quicker engine warm-ups over-cooling of the engine oil.
